Here is a good one…I have a Word template with headings 1, 2, 3 and they are numbered headings:

    1

    1.1

    1.1.1

When I apply a H3 style  and then hit Tab, it increments the way you would expect for a H4.

    1.1.1.1

And the numbering carries the way it normally should.

BUT, the 1.1.1.1 heading is still showing as a H3 head so that when I generate a TOC, all the four digit headings show up as heading threes.

I WANT a true H4 to use so that they will not show up in the TOC, but I cannot find a way to ADD a new style as an H4 that works. When I create a new style, it starts at 1.1.1.1 no matter where I am in the document, and I cannot figure out how to make it carry over the numbering from the H3 above.

    4

    4.1

    4.1.1

    4.1.1.1

    4.1.1.2

    etc.

    Please help…thanks.
