This has me baffled. I have a user’s computer, running W2K Pro, which will not allow ANY of the administrator accounts to install Oracle 8.1.6.

I’ve tried disabling the anti-virus software, and any other software that is showing in the system tray at startup. I’ve also tried installing the latest and greatest patches / updates from the Windows Update site.

    Any suggestions?

Can you be a little more descriptive? What’s the error? How far does it get? is this the first install after the OS installation? Are you sure the user is a member of the local admininstrative account?

Ah.. turns out this was a problem, specific to the software / hardware combination on this computer.

This PC, has a Pentium IV processor, which, doesn’t like the JAVA in the installer program for the software we were installing. This was corrected in a newer version of the software. The problem software was (is??) Oracle 8i, the 8.1.6 release.

Sorry to keep you all hanging over the weekend!

And yes Joe, thanks for the suggestion to check the account. The user account, and the other accounts I tried are all listed in the local administration group.

Chris, you’re welcome. We’ve had some ‘fun’ times with Oracle also. That is one piece of software definitely designed to make consultants rich.
