I am locked out of exclusive mode for my database but no one is using the file, how might I release the hold the LDB has over my database so I can retain exclusive access? I am assuming like a system crash or alt ctrl delete caused the LDB to remain on.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerApril 27, 2002 at 4:58 pm #584917Did you delete the ldb? You’ll need to provide more information. Are you opening this on a local machine or on a server? If the answer is server, there are two places to check, the server and your local machine. Also, there may be more than one lock file involved if you have a split front end/back end or if you have a reference set to another database or mde.
I don’t understand your remark about it being created with a particular workgroup. What does that have to do with trying to open the database exclusive? You may not be able to open the database at all if you don’t use the correct workgroup, but I thought the issue was that you couldn’t open it exclusive.

AskWoody LoungerApril 29, 2002 at 4:10 pm #585203Well, when I tried to delete the LDB I got an error that the mdb was in use. So I waited until the users got out and when I tried to open it exclusively I continually got the error message that the mdb is in use by someone else. I downloaded the LDB viewer and looked at the file & it told me that no LDB was associated with the mdb. By the way, this mdb is a back end mdb that sits on the NT server. Hope you can help!

AskWoody LoungerApril 29, 2002 at 4:49 pm #585216Check out this article. It refers to a Novell environment but I thought it might prove helpful.
This one also may prove useful.

AskWoody LoungerApril 29, 2002 at 4:53 pm #585220well, I dunno but the problem seems to have cleared itself as somehow I can now open the mdb exclusive & the only thing I did different was by clicking on the advanced button and then cancelling the action when I tried to open the mdb. This is so weird I hate it sometimes thanks for your help though!
