Even though I have Adobe Flash Player 11 Active 64-bit installed on Windows 7, I keep getting this message when I try to view a video like you tube: The Adobe Flash Player or an HTML5 supported browser is required for video playback.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and yet it gives me problems even though I get this message: Installation successful You are now runningAdobe Flash Player.
And I always get the message wherever I go: This web site wants to run the following add-on Adobe Flash Player
You can troubleshoot your installation with the following resources:
    Troubleshooting Windows Installation
    Flash Player Help and Support
Even odder ,though, a lot of sites I go to will have a message that I need to install the latest flash player, but with the message – This web site wants to run the following add-on Adobe Flash Player, if I click on that message, something will play.
I have checked the disk for errors (none found) and ran a SFC but did not help.
Any ideas for me? Thanks much.

If you’re using Internet Explorer 9, you probably need to disable ActiveX filtering for each particular site by clicking the blue slashed circle at the right end of the address bar:

How to Disable or Enable (Turn Off or On) ActiveX Filtering in IE9

I got the same message today visiting About.com. The message read: This website wants to install the following add-on: Adobe Flash Player. ActiveX Filtering in not ticked. Is there anything else to try?

I’m getting the same message and know that my flash player is current. I am running IE8 with Win7, 64 bit.

          What goes??

It appears that videos at About.com require both ActiveX Filtering and Tracking Protection to be disabled; then they play OK for me.

“ActiveX Filtering and Tracking Protection ” I don’t have either of these , I have uninstalled (using their uninstaller) and reinstalled Flash player twice. It is the latest version. I still get this @#$%^& message on You Tube. I have also reinstalled an image backup from before it went wonky. Still no Joy.

What are some of the alternate flash players y’all have mentioned before??

PS: everything works on my other two computers with current video sites.

I wonder why About.com’s afraid of Tracking Protection? I just won’t update when they ask me to and I could not go there at all.

It is not the About.com site, you need to go to the Adobe.com site and read about this particular failure message. I finally found it and all you have to do is go into Internet Explorer tools and find the add-ons. You need to activate the Shockwave addon and it will work like it always did.

          PS:This IS for Win7 and IE 8

maybe you need the 32bit version of flash player as well for some sites that are not geared up for 64bit yet.

I don’t think a particular site can affect the requirement for a 32-bit or 64-bit version of flash player, only the browser being used needs the specific version.
