Adobe has issued a security advisory warning that users should update their copies of Adobe Flash Player immediately. I dutifully downloaded and installed the latest versions for Firefox and Chrome. So far, so good.
Then I tried to update the version installed with Internet Explorer. Can’t do it, Adobe doesn’t offer Flash Player for download for Internet Explorer under Windows 10. It’s apparently more or less part of Internet Explorer, or Windows, or something.
I had Secunia PSI scan for any updates I might need, and it reported that my copy of Adobe Flash Player (ActiveX) is out of date and in need of an update. In the Status column the entry for Flash Player read “Click to update”. I clicked that; PSI displayed “Examining program”; and then redisplayed “Click to update”. Back to Square One.
I fired up Windows Update and scanned for needed updates. Nada, zilch, I’m fully up to date.
Except I know that I don’t have the new version of Adobe Flash Player.
So is everybody who’s running Internet Explorer under Windows 10 vulnerable to the ransomware attacks until Microsoft gets around to offering the update through Windows Update?
At the moment, I’m really glad I use Firefox as my default browser….
