GuestJuly 21, 2015 at 9:32 am #50872Remember, there are more than one Flash Player updates (so far) for July. Bad month for Adobe.
My willingness to upgrade my ASUS Transformer Book (t100ta) Tablet may depend in part on whether ASUS tech support will offer a new device WIM and a new OEM Recovery Partition for the device to run under Windows 10. That may be hard to pin down with the Company. They may also need to update their drivers from time to time, as third-party drivers and MS Updates drivers can brick these tablets. Thus forcing a paid support ticket with ASUS.
Due to updated device versions being manufactured regularly, support can be quite limited on tablets after only two years or so. The batteries are also not wear-resistant and not replaceable on many tablets. It looks a lot like planned obsolescence. But what do you want for under $400.00 Street Price? Just keep data backups and keep an eye on trade-in deals or big discounts on current models.
It’s not just the OS which has become disposable.

GuestJuly 21, 2015 at 10:16 am #50873According to what little I have read, Windows 10 will not allow anyone to skip upgrades. You get two choices:
1. Check, โช#โDownloadโฌ, Install, and Reboot automatically
2. Check, Download, Install automatically and then choose to RebootWhat about the latest security problems? MS released a patch yesterday across all versions: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms15-078.aspx

GuestJuly 21, 2015 at 11:19 am #50874I’m more than dissappointed by the inability to choose what updates to apply. My perception is that this is a step toward no longer having the ability to control things on a machine. I think those who made the decision to do this should be forced (and I laugh at that due to the irony) to watch The Matrix and have this pointed out in case they’re not paying attention
“Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization.”
“You can’t win. It’s pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?
Neo: Because I choose to.”So that being stated Microsoft appears to be taking choice away from their user base and placing limitations on things.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 21, 2015 at 12:06 pm #50875Woody, since you write about Windows, you need to use the latest and greatest. The rest of us, who just want to get some work done, should stick to Windows 7. I go back to the DOS days and I would always install the latest. Since XP there hasn’t been much new, just an opportunity for Microsoft to take more of our money.

GuestJuly 21, 2015 at 7:52 pm #50876Good to see that Adobe finally released a security bulletin for (this update for) Shockwave Player. Recent monthly updates did not have related bulletins – the last was in March.
For completeness (the info in each is a subset of that in later security updates bulletins), here are links to Security Advisory bulletins for the 2 Flash Player updates:

GuestJuly 22, 2015 at 11:11 am #50880@Ginny51 and @Woody —
Can we please keep the distinction between a Windows Update and a Windows U?pgrade clear around here?
Ginny51, you really mean forced Updates for Windows 10.
Woody, you really mean the Windows 10 Upgrade, not Update, no?
It’s an important distinction when dealing with both categories of issues at the same time at this site.

GuestJuly 23, 2015 at 1:16 pm #50883SAdly, I need Flash Player at most browser based network TV video streaming sites. Firefox with Shumway does not play, and with Flash Player disabled, there is no HTML5 version of these players which comes up. Part of this has to do with presenting ads, but the players themselves are based on Flash Player.
I don’t see this issue going away soon. TV executives seem to be rather tech-challenged.
