    Edition Windows 10 Home
    Version 22H2
    Installed on ‎2/‎22/‎2021
    OS build 19045.4529
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19058.1000.0

I normally pause updates for maximum allowed time.  That was “up” tomorrow (17 June), so I installed updates today.  No apparent hitches to the install.  When the laptop restarted after install process, the Settings window would only display for 2-3 seconds before disappearing.  I’ve shutdown and restarted.  I’ve run “sfc/scannow” and I’ve even installed and run “Fortect” and DISM with no success.  Help???

This is my husband’s laptop (he gets the “trickle down” hardware).  Nothing was done to the laptop other than allowing it sit “on”. I logged out of my admin account and logged into his account. I told him his apps appeared to be working but to let me know if he ran into anything odd.

After posting the message above, I went back to his machine to review the PC properties (click File Explorer, right click “This PC”, click “Properties”)–forgetting that this opens Settings.

The Properties opened and stayed open.  So I thought “ah ha”.  Nope!  Clicked on the home icon and the Settings home opened for about 3 seconds then disappeared.  Couldn’t remember any other shortcuts to Settings pages.

Today I sauntered into his office and “for grins” I tried to open Settings.  It opened.  I could change network properties (I keep our machines on “metered network” when not running updates) and set the pause on updates to 5 weeks.  I was able to open other Settings pages.

Do NOT know why Settings is now accessible.  We didn’t even reboot or shutdown/restart the laptop after I gave up on Settings being accessible.  In my experience, either a fix works or doesn’t…there is no “waiting period” for a fix to take effect.

Could this indicate a hardware problem or a “pending” hardware issue?

So the problem has resolved itself but leaves me in the dark as to the problem and no assurance that it will not return.
