After upgrading Win8.1 to Win10 (yay it worked), my ability to adjust brightness has disappeared. Luckily at 100% brightness it’s not so bad – so I could just leave it alone(?), don’t rock the boat. My knowledge level “talk to me like a fifth grader”.

This is a Toshiba All-in-One computer.
Display Adapter is Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    Driver Date 12/21/2015
    Version 10.18.10.4358
Signer is Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

Under Device manager there is an “Update Driver” button. I’m nervous about clicking that and I’m here to ask for advice / confidence. Is the way to go? It does have a “roll back driver” button but if the screen goes black, it might be hard to click it.

I see that Intel has an auto detect assistant. Auto anything makes me nervous but is this recommended?
The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant keeps your system up-to-date by providing tailored support and hassle-free updates for most of your Intel hardware.

Update the driver from the Toshiba website for your computer model/graphics adapter or the Intel driver support site using the Driver Support Assistant for the latter.
If you use the Intel site, read the info on the driver and be sure it matches your computer specs. (I had an old computer that the Assistant recommended a driver that required virtualization, which my computer did not support).
Microsoft drivers through Windows Update are the last of three choices.

Be sure you back up your drivers prior installing the new one.

Do not us third-party driver suppliers. They are not reliable and often unsafe.

Toshiba was rebranded as Dynabook and they don’t even have my computer listed on their support at this point. I sent them an email but my confidence is low that they will know what they are doing.

Sounds like I should try door #2 – Intel.

I will need to find some videos on how to install a new driver and how to back up the old driver and how to revert back.  ==> Please let me know if you have a resource for learning this.

How to backup/restore drivers with MiniTool.

      Using the Intel Assistant:
When the Assistant offers a driver, read through the information/requirements on the site for that driver. Be sure that they apply to your computer (one source of information on your computer is msinfo32.exe – enter in searchbar and hit Enter). The installer will probably offer you drivers and other options. All you need is the drivers.
