Alienware Aurora R3 Windows 10 Upgrade

Hello!
I’m looking for some suggestions. I have a 3 year-old Alienware Aurora R3, 8 GB RAM, 4 TB of hard drives, and I want to move to Win 10 Pro from Win 7 Pro–both 64-bit. During the Preview program, I had some success running several of the versions, but no luck with the public release. After loading and the first reboot, it moves to the circle and after 29% reboots…and freezes. I’ve tried the Windows Update, USB, and DVD routes with no success.
Dell says they have no support for the upgrade, but one nice Alienware support person gave me several suggestion–none of which, of course worked. The last suggestion was to stay with Win 7 Pro!
Obviously, after owning numerous Dell products since my first PCs Limited, I am extremely disappointed and annoyed with their “Just buy a new $1700 PC” attitude.
Can anyone in Lounge Land help?

Replies

Stick with W7 for a little longer.
Keep an eye on drivers for your machine and when it looks like they are available, collect them and then try the upgrade.
Don’t forget to make an image backup prior to the upgrade.

If you did not “reserve” a copy try that. It runs a compatibility program. Microsoft won’t automatically try the upgrade until they believe it will work.

Joe,
I did the reserve and the compatibility check–passed all tests. I guess that’s why it’s so frustrating!
Gotta love technology…I’m at the point where I’ll try just about any fix.

Did you force the upgrade by creating media or did Windows Update download the upgrade and notify you?

I’ve done the “Get Windows 10” route through the icon in the taskbar, the Windows Update route, the download then USB and DVD–all freeze at the same point. Do you know of any install log that is created during the installation attempts?

There is a log but I forget where it is. I’ll have to do some searching.

BTW, is the 29% during the file copying phase or the installing drivers and features phase?

Still haven’t found log file location.

One of the machines I upgraded stayed at 23% for a long time. I was almost ready to give up and it went ahead. How long did you let it sit at 29%?

It reboots on its own…if I leave it alone, it’s still frozen after about 9 hours–overnight!

I’m pretty sure there are over 40 GB free, but I’ll double-check.
