Annoying Security Warning Pop ups (XP)

Can anyone tell me how to eliminate those annoying Security Warning Popups, such as IBIS, Spyware. I have installed a POP up detector that does remove actual pop ups, but not the Security Warnings. I have tried to contact the vendors who tell me I get them because of a software program I downloaded and these are requests for updates. I have not loaded any of their software on my machine, since this is a business computer and I am forbidden to do so, upon penalty of termination. It wouldn’t annoy me so much, but each time they POP they freeze up my typing. What can I do? This has to be a ‘free’ fix since as I said, this is a business computer. Is anyone else plagued with this and how did you eliminate them.

Try running AdAware, Spybot, using the Google toolbar with built in pop-up stopper Panic Ware’s Pop Up Stopper and I don’t think you’ll see them.

Thanks somuch for replying so quickly. I have tried Google and a couple of others, they really do stop the POP ups, but not the SECURITY WARNING messages. There is no where on the ‘pop up ‘ that gives me a link to a site that I can contact. What would happen if I installed it and then deleted it? Do you think the download will give me information as to the sender? By the way, it just did if four times while I was typing to you!

I’m not exactly sure what you mean. Are you trying to stop bubble popups, something native to Windows, or from a web page? A picture would be worth a lot. Can you just put up a screen shot and then I could go after it.

I don’t know if what you want to use, but Windows includes a built in photo editor editor MS Paint that doesn’t have many 3rd party features and Office always has some form of photo editor depending on the version with Office Tools. There are also free graphics programs that I are listed in the link below–many have excellent features, and Irfranview is a perrenial Lounge favorite for a lot of people. I have many graphics programs, but I usually use Paint because it is quick and easy.

MS Paint Tips[/u]

1) Use Print Screen Key Upper Right for Desktop; Use Alt+Print Screen for Latest Window Up.
2) Open up Microsoft Paint using Windows Key+ “R” and type “mspaint” in run box without quotes.
3) Click on Edit>Paste.
4) Make sure before hand that you have stretched both Paint’s Window and the white box inside enough to contain the image. If you don’t see “blue dots” on the side of the white window inside to drag, click on it and they’ll appear. Hover the mouse over them on the bottom, right, and corner to get dragging arrows.
5) Drag the Image to the portion you want–a bold cross will appear to let you know you can drag.
6)) Use the select tool on the immediate left (square with the dots to cut portion you need) Edit Cut>Paste. You can also use this to cut a portion you want to drag by selecting and dragging without cutting.
6) To resize quickly and easily click Image>Stretch Skew to 90% and repeat that to get the size without distorting acuity.
7) Use File>Save to Save Your Image after resizing and cropping. Save as .jpeg or .png for the lounge; .jpeg will be smaller in size and adequate, but .png will have finer image resolution.
8) Use File>Open and Copy and Paste to introduce previous images, and the select tool to cut them to a size to combine.

It almost sounds like you need to turn off the messenger service in the services panel of your control panel. If I am correct in reading the post it’s not a website or Internet explorer window that comes up but rather a grey popup that you have to click on OK to close.

You go into your Control Panel Then into Administrative Tools then Click on the Services Applet. From there find the Messenger Service in the list that comes up. Double Click on it then stop the service. Once it’s stopped set it from Automatic to Disabled and the service still not start again.

Your network administrator should have blocked those messages at the firewall. If they are blocked at the firewall and you’re still getting them, either (1) someone has become infected with a trojan, or (2) someone has created a backdoor around or a tunnel through the firewall (possibly with a peer-to-peer networking product or a wireless access point). In a corporate environment, this should never be the end-user’s problem to fix.
