I have tangled for the last week with a ‘ghost’ user. I have exactly three users on the splash screen and in the Accounts Manager: ADMIN, mine, and Guest. But the Task Manager shows that a fourth “user name” is actually calling for all the services. I cannot even start a service as me! I cannot find where it came from although I did use that term “mishmash” as a folder name on another machine. The folder was temporarily housed on this machine while the other computer was upgraded. The file in any event has now been deleted. I get all kinds of “you lack rights” messages when trying to get rid of this blight. Any help appreciated.

      Hi Linus,

Is the offending user profile still there or have you removed it? If it is gone and you are having to contend for the rights to your folders and files, check this tutorial for taking ownership . Notice that at the end there is a link to another article on how to add a Take Ownership option to your right click context menu.

Thanks so much, Gerald, for posting that! I’ve been plagued since installing Win 7 and now all files are mine – mine – all mine!
