Launch Pad search –  I mostly use CMD + Space to bring up ‘Spotlight Search’  it searches everything but when you start typing the name of an app it will come right up and pressing enter will launch

When I looked through the list of software it caused me to reflect on how I use so many of those programs that are critical to everyday use of my devices and how polished and consistent they are.  Notepad, Reminders, Calendar, Find My, Safari, iPhone screen mirroring, Numbers, Pages  etc.   Everything syncs to all my apple devices including often the watch.  Because everything is backed up  to iCloud and apple has built its entire business model on its ecosystem being private and secure I tend to default to their software.

If as a windows user you just don’t get why people use Apple devices the best reason I can give for myself is the consistency across every device, every part of the operating system, all the software, all the hardware, and the cloud.  It’s one cohesive thing that just works… mostly without issue.   If you are all in, it really comes together…..   It does cost more but for my use case these things are worth the extra…

      Will,

Thanks for a great article. I switched to Mac in 2019 after I got tired of the monthly drama updating Windows and apps.

Also, I had obtained a top of the line version of Windows with a big student discount. Nevertheless, Outlook wouldn’t load. Microsoft claims they’ll help you load any program you buy from them. Indeed they would, but they wanted $100 to help me download Outlook.

In 6 years I haven’t had to take my macBook Pro into the repair shop. I even avoid the monthly drama of updating the OS and apps.

      Thanks again for the article.

Thanks, Will. I’ve really enjoyed these articles. A fair assessment…all of them. I think the “it just works” mantra Mac users proclaim it pretty much true. I don’t know anyone who actually uses the old office apps but, yes, they are there. I’m wondering if you are going to cover the Finder app because I think Microsoft is way ahead on that account. So many Mac people I know have a desktop full of files because they don’t know how to use the Finder…which is not that intuitive.

I enjoyed your article. The one thing missing is that you don’t have an Apple keyboard. When you do, F4 does bring up the Launchpad.

      I crossed over in 2011.

      Interesting way to put it.

Coming. I’ve been speaking with Mac users who disagree with your point about File Explorer.

That’s very interesting. I’ll follow up on that, but don’t expect me to buy an Apple keyboard!

However, I could have set F4 instead of F1 and that would have worked, which makes me even more interested in why there is a difference between Apple- and PC-compatible keyboards.

Right, exactly what I did. I was surprised that it had zero shortcuts for my old IBM keyboards.

Actually has made me consider getting a Mac.

Actually makes me nervous about job security.
