Apps minimizing (Office 97 SR2)

Client has Office 97 SR2 and Outlook 2000, IE 5.5 SP2 and Win 95 OSR2 and today the apps other than Outlook 2000 minimize and disappear rather than minimizing to the taskbar. We can alt tab through the apps and restore them normally but they just do not appear on the taskbar.

I am searching for stuff like virus variants and such but appreciate any suggestions.

I presume a reboot doesn’t cure the problem? What new software, if any, has been installed?

Here is an update with solution.
Client had received an email earlier in the day which apparently triggered this condition.

Found and removed an app which I could not identify but after removal of same the condition no longer existed.

Further searching revealed this thread at another web site which included references to the app which I removed.
