Asking for .NET passport

I want to use Windows Messenger in Windows XP, and I haven’t set it up before. When I try to sign in, the .NET Passport Wizard starts, but I already have a .NET Passport. I don’t want to sign up for one if I already have one, but I can’t find an option to say that I already have one. I haven’t used it in a million years. Could it have expired? Any suggestions on what I should do?

The passport wiz works off of a msn or hotmail or live email account. The second screen should have been the choice between using an existing email address or creating a new one. You may need to create a new one since the account may very well have expired. There used to be, maybe still is, a requirement that a hotmail (probably also applied to msn) account had to be logged into at least once a month to remain active.

I don’t have any of those accounts, so I’ll work through the wizard and start from scratch. Thanks for the info.

Yes, if you have not used your MSN/Live account in a long time it has been deactivated. Even when you set up a Windows Live account, you can add other email accounts to your Windows Live email screen and even set one of the other accounts as your default email. I have 3 email accounts currently set up and when I activate Windows Live mail all 3 are checked. This is more convienient than having to check all 3 individually. When you want to send an email, choose which account to send from using the drop down box in the upper right hand corner of the email window. Have fun!
