    Hi

Can anyone help.  On Windows 7, patches kb4512506 & kb4512506 have been given the okay to install.  However under the notes it reads “Pick one or the other”.  Does that mean they both have to be installed but separately & re-booted between?

    Thanks

We are still on DEFCON 2. Woody has not given the OK to patch yet.

Yes, I understand but Susan has given the install with the above notes and I shall still hold off until defcon changes.  I still need clarification about what is meant in the notes.

The patch you have listed twice is KB4512506 2019-08 Security Quality Monthly Rollup. Do you normally install Group A Rollups?

The other patches for Win7 are the Group B patches KB4512486 Security-only Quality Update and KB4511872 Cumulative Rollup for IE11.

Oops my mistake.  The two patches are kb4512506 & kb4512486 that I should have said.

Yes I normally install all rollups and other patches as advised on woodys.

Hope this helps someone to give me an answer about what the notes “Pick one or the other to install”

The choice is between Group A (kb4512506) and Group B (kb4512486). You are either in one group or the other. You don’t install patches for both groups.

I’ll put a note in there about what A and B means and link it back to the forum.

Thank you. I am probably group A, so shall install kb4512506 when okay’d in Defcon.

      Cheers

I’m in Group A now. I was in Group B about a year or so ago, but it got a little too complicated. I have a 64 bit W7 laptop  with Norton Security. When I try to download the KB4512506 update,  it shows 0 in the file like it doesn’t even exist, and it keeps going through the motion like it it is trying to download.  Earlier when I downloaded the other updates successfully, it showed a fail.  I have the current updated version on my Norton Security. So I wouldn’t think that would  be an issue, as that update was supposed to have eliminated any Norton/Windows update issues. Has anybody else experienced this. or have any recommendations on what to do?

        See #1940976.
Verify that these updates are installed on your PC before try to install KB4512506.

Also, recheck the Norton website to be sure there are no additional patches you need for your Norton Security.
