Auto Fill/Numbering (2002 SP3)

I have a field that is filling in numbers with out typing them into the field. When the user is filling out the records; 1 for the first record, 2 for the second one and then Access is putting a 3 for the third record but the user may want to put in another number. Is there a way to turn off this feature?
I have looked on Microsoft’s web site and look through the options in Access and have not been able to find an auto fill/numbering option anywhere.

Are you using the AutoNumber datatype in the table?

No, you can’t turn this off.

From ACC2000: Tables Are Automatically Populated with Values As You Move Through Fields or Records:[indent]

This feature is built into Access, and it is always enabled. You cannot disable it.
