One user is on a Windows NT 4.0 workstation, SP5, with Microsoft Office 97, SR2. When she opens a document in Word, a drive letter is automatically assigned to that document. This repeats with each document she opens until all drive letters are taken. When she restarts the computer, all the “ghost” mappings are gone, her original mappings are still there, and of course her recent list under the File drop down menu won’t work. I’ve searched the Knowledgebase articles but didn’t find anything. Any ideas of things to try would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Kathy

No, there isn’t a Don’tUserUNC value and she is storing documents on the network. I don’t know about local vs. network — when her machine was brought to our dept., we can’t duplicate the problem in our office although we could when it was in her office…

      Thanks for your help!

I think it has something to do with FastFind – I should know because I’ve fixed it before. crazy
If FastFind is in the Startup folder, try moving/deleting it and see if it stops.

FastFind! No, that didn’t occur to us as a potential cause of a problem like this, but why am I not surprised… Her machine is one of the few around here that we hadn’t already taken FastFind off of. We’ve made the change, and will take her machine down shortly.

          Thanks for all the help!
