I have scheduled tasks set to run in the middle of the night in XP Mode, and Windows Update often reboots my computer and then those tasks don’t get done.

I’ve been able to place Windows XP mode into my Startup group, but I need to find out how to avoid Windows waiting for me to enter my password all night. I used to have my old XP machine set up to automatically log me in if it got rebooted … can I do that in Windows 7, too?

Here’s the steps for auto login in Win 7. Much easier than XP.

This may be helpful, it disables the auto-restart in Windows so only warnings are displayed that you need to reboot. You can then restart when YOU want to to!

      1. Click Start and type gpedit.msc
      2. Press Enter
      3. Go to Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
      4. Double-click on “No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled sutomatic update installations”
      5. Enable it!
      6. Reboot the computer

      Cheers,

      Nathan
