    Hi

I have developed templates for our staff to report with following assessments at client organisations. If staff find any problems they will generate corrective action reports (CARs). One of the final actions for the reporting is to insert into the report the number of CARs found. To do this I have developed a macro that, based on the number of CARs found (0, 1 or>1), existing text is replaced by Autotext entries.

The problem I have is that if one word is edited and when the autotext is inserted the font for that word, in the middle of the text, is changes from 10.5 Arial (our default) to 10pt Arial. If I insert the autotext into a blank document it is OK!

We have developed a global template that resides in the Word startup folder to control all styles used and also contains the autotext entries. We, at first, believed the problem was a rogue version of this template residing somewhere on our intranet but, try as we might this cannot be proven/found.

This problem has consumed an enormous amount of time, can anyone help?

        Hans thanks for that.

Good information but does not resolve our problem.

The largest autotext we use is 3 paras therefore has 2 paragraph ends and 2 line spacers and the font change affects only one word in the first line!

I can’t reproduce the problem in Word 2002 SP3. Perhaps someone who uses Word 2003 can comment.

      Is Track Changes enabled?

Does the edit take advantage of any AutoFormat or AutoComplete functionality?

Is the problem word in the AutoText or in the document into which you are inserting the AutoText?

(If the problem is with a word in the AutoText, then the question would be: How well does the AutoText match the styles in the target document? Because you have paragraph breaks in there, you potentially are bringing in text in a style that exists but which has direct formatting applied. There can be an odd reversal of formatting in some cases when a paragraph style is updated. )
