Does anyone know of any B&W laser printers capable of printing individual membership cards (light glossy cardboard , 3.5″ x 2.1″ or 90mm x 55mm)?

I have a client who has seen this done with Inkjet printers (Canon IP5200 or ip4600 or Epson R230) and wants me to setup their membership database to do the same with a laser printer.

I don’t kow about other applications, but this can be done within Word quite easily by using the Avery Wizard. The business cards (obviously) will have to be purchased and the laser printer must be able to accomodate this card stock.

My question is about printer capabilities. I can setup the database to do the printing, but most printers won’t handle the cards. I have tried using my own Lexmark and the cards just don’t go anywhere.

Added a bit later: Just to clarify. I don’t want to print onto sheets (A4 etc) that can be cut/torn into Business card size. I want to print to individual cards one at a time.)

Is something like this what you are looking for ??

It came from this Google search.

Not really. My client is looking for a conventional laser printer that can also handle cards, rather than a specialised card printer. That is what the inkjets are.
Maybe we might need to go down the road of a specialised card printer, but it is not their initial request.

      … light glossy cardboard , 3.5″ x 2.1″ or 90mm x 55mm …

Wow, those are small and I’d bet you’ve got a lot of searching to do.

I recently bought an HP 6980 (ink jet) and it WON’T print 3″ x 5″ index cards but DOES handle 4″ x 6″ cards very nicely. I think you are gonna have to go the “specialty” route.

One problem we’ve found with printing items less than the printer’s assumed size (in our case printing roughly A5 portrait on an A4 HP laser) is that the fuser and other toner related transport bits gummed up with toner at the edges, making reverting to A4 impossible without replacing those bits.

Our Lab system supplier recommended Zebra (or similar) printers using film ribbons to transfer ink. Nice finish, but the paper/card has to be on rolls and they are expensive.
