I use Casper 7 to back up the entire HD to an external HD. The PC started giving me trouble and eventually would not boot. A computer tech spent over five hours trying various means to restore the external backup to a new drive. It turns out that apparently the backup has the same problem. This question may not be answeable: If he loads each program separately on to the new drive is it possible to retrieve data from the old drive?
    I have Win 7 Prof.

possibly, if you connect the old drive as a secondary and it’s readable, data could be pulled off.
Programs should be installed one at a time, and no other activity should be going on in the background
      while this is happening.

Thanks for the suggestion. It may be the only way to go.

”The” backup is better than no backup, but as you have discovered, limitations can set in. “Backups” is better than “backup”. I use drive imaging for backup, and have several iterations of stored images. If the latest image has a problem, I can go back a little further in time and restore an older image.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
