I am trying to cleanup my hard drive and am using Tree Size Free to find the directoriesthat are using up the most space. I have a folder in Documents calledBackups. I’m pretty sure that I created this folder and I use itmostly to backup something that I am going to make a change to andwant to make sure I can get back to my original, just in case I dosomething really dumb. I do regular backups of all of my files.

In Tree Size, I seethat this folder takes up 12.5 GB of space, which just doesn’t seempossible with the way I use it. So, I open it up and find thefollowing:

    Folder Size DateModified
    iCloud PhotosBackup 850 MB 2/28/2015
    Original Images 8.7GB 10/4/2015
*Windows Live PhotoGallery 2.8 GB 11/10/2015
*Largest portion ofthis one is FaceThumbs.FD1, which takes up 2.3 GB, which, bysearching my computer, I find that I have 5 copies of this one file, using over 10 GB of space.

Since the DateModified is so old, can I delete these files? I glanced through thefiles and there are pictures there that I have in other locations.Maybe I somehow copied all of these there at some point? I’m notreally sure.

Thanks for anyguidance you can give me.

If you make regular weekly or bi-monthly OS and Data partition full image backups, you can probably safely delete all of that old stuff.

Yeah…I haven’t been backing up any of the OS or program files. Just the data. Think it would still be OK? Thanks for your help.

Why are you not backing up the OS / taking a disk image? Do that first then delete the files.

Thread starter needs to make full images of both the OS and the Data partitions on a routine basis. I have had to restore my Windows partition several times over the years.
