mod move if in wrong place.

10 22H2 (or Terabyte created bootable stick)

    Terabyte image for windows.

source is 500gb nvme Sam 970 nvme with about 120GB data in 8 partitions, mixed win and Mint.

Target is 1T nvme WD BL  or brandy new Sam 990 1T nvme (which I had hoped would fix the problem). Enclosure is SSK USB 3.2 plugged to special C port on Lenovo  P15s with case left off and various massive heatsinks on top, since I am guessing this is a heat problem. I have a 2″ fan blowing on it and various heatsinks. Special cable rated 20GBb xUsed to work beautifully. recently started getting more and more probs. Turns 6 min backup into 11 or more min backup.

Backup starts at ~700MBs but after a minute or 2 drops to ~130MBs.

Thoughts? Crystal tests source at 3500MBs and target at ~1024MBs. Laptop is 4 path, SSK enclosure is 2 path. Plus USB limit is ~1000MBs C 3.2

NVMe drives tend to run hot.

They have a feature called “thermal throttling” that will slow down the drive to prevent overheating.

Check with the drive manufacturer for the max operating temp. They may also have an app that will give you temp warnings and notifications when the drive is throttling.

WD recommends not higher than 72C.

Good airflow in the case would be helpful.

Yes, I think my real question here should be how to successfully heatsink these things. The WD is multi level. I bought the Sammy hoping it would be single level but, alas. The nvme enclosres are all pretty much sealed units which makes no sense to me so I use the SSKs, but w/o the outer case.

Funny that this worked so well for so long and now i am having trouble. I do have a 2″ fan pointed at it but prob still happens.

yes, I also posted at Terabyte as it made sense to me to do so since it is their product.

      Which is fine.

However, whenever you cross-post, it’s considered a courtesy to include the link(s) to the other site(s) you’ve posted the issue on.

It helps eliminate confusion, and wasting other people’s time researching and suggesting things that have already been done.
