A buddy of mine called me with a problem with his Win98 or ME box. His power supply blew and he replaced it without a problem, but now when he attempts to boot up, he gets a black screen and two sets of beep error tones. For the life of me I can’t remember what the tones mean or where to find my list of same.
He said he gets a 2 and 8 beeps, then 2 and 1 beeps. Then nothing else. The keyboard is reacting because he can give the three finger salute to restart the process. Thats as far as he can go.

I am trying to do this over the phone, so I really can’t do too much and actually see what’s happening or NOT happening.

Anyone with the error code list?

I am of course referring to POST errors. Didn’t seem too clear in above msg.

        Hi Preston,
Yes, That site had enough of the basic info he needed. He has AMI bios, so they have one of the most complex set of error codes going. We have narrowed in down to the display/video card or memory. Guess it depends on what was happening at the time the power supply self-destructed.
        Thanks again, cheers
