    Think!

This is a great PDF based pictorial history of the technological giant from the 1890’s to 2001.

Sometimes it’s difficult to remember that there was tech before Microsoft Windows and PCs.  This is a good reminder of the pioneer’s shoulders that the current tech leaders are standing upon.

From tabulating machines and typewriters, to Apollo Lunar guidance computers, mainframe computing, and beyond …  good fun!

Thank you… for we really only can see into the future as far as we can see into the past… and we need to learn from our mistakes, and our successes!

for we really only can see into the future as far as we can see into the past

This is a deep and beautifully put sentiment.

In John Aubrey’s “Brief Lives”, where he memorialized the interesting characters he knew in his day, back in Seventeenth Century England, there is a chapter about the great scholar Thomas Hobbes, who had died recently, vignettes of whose life Aubrey recounted there. It contains this thought: “When a man of learning dies, how much learning dies with him!” The remembrance of past achievements and ideas is a treasure constantly being lost to time. But, at the very least, to be worthy of being considered a truly civilized person, one has to be aware of one’s own ignorance and its always expanding circle, and do what is possible to slow down its increase.

So, JohnW: Let’s Think!, by all means, about all this. And thanks for posting here the link to that document.
