I need a TXT viewer supporting big ones, say 74 MB TXTs.
I’ve seen many recommendations of TXT viewers in this list, but I need one with this particular characteristic.

Any ideas?

Edited to add: I forgot to mention: freeware, if possible!

Check out editor PSPad – freeware HTML editor, PHP editor, XHTML, JavaScript, ASP, Perl, C , HEX editor and Kirys Tech 2000. Both are free and the file size is limited only by available RAM. You can also check out others at NONAGS Text Editors – Freeware.

Well I found Kirys Tech 2000 AEdix to be even more powerful!
It opens big TXT files faster than PSPad. Two great suggestions!

I’ve always been partial to UltraEdit but it’s not free. However, Crimson Editor is very similar and IS free – if you’re not hooked on the two suggestions you have already, give one or both of them a try.

Good morning all,

I’ve tried all your suggestions and come up with the following choices:

AEdix for viewing big TXT files, say up to 200 MB. It loads the file faster than the other apps and has many features.
Lister (I chose Lister 32) for viewing even larger TXTs. For example, we have a 4 GB TXT none of the other apps could open. But it took Lister one second to open it! I’d only use it in these situations, since it lacks all the functionality and cool look of AEdix.

I really appreciate your kind input.

And once again I have to throw in Award-Winning NoteTab Text Editors and HTML Editors for the freebie version has in its Help file:
…Open and edit many documents at once, even huge files (only limited by system resources)…
I don’t have a text file around that’s large enough to try.

Well, I guess my preferences are just as good as anyone else’s here.

1. My favorite text editor that will open just about anything is EditPad Pro (currently beta testing the soon to be released version 6.0). You can download a free Trial Version that has a few limitations. Documentation and download at the link above.
– See also the FREE version, EditPad Lite

2. My next favorite which I use many times daily is the free Metapad (46K)

As a light but powerful viewer only, I tend to favour Lister. It’s an external (standalone) version of Total Commander’s built-in viewer (32-bit version). It’s only around 200KB and freeware.
