• BleachBit and Internet Explorer

I use BleachBit every so often to clean up any temporary files lingering on the PC. One thing I have noticed is that it does not remove the cache from Internet Explorer. I have the box checked to clean it. The funny thing is, I don’t use (never use) either Internet Explorer or Edge to browse. And each time I use BleachBit, the size of the cache for IE has changed, sometimes going up, sometimes down.

For example: A few days ago I ran Bleachbit, the IE cache was listed at 17.6MB. I ran the program, after cleaning I ran it again and IE cache is still listed at 17.6MB. I ran it today, and the IE cache size had increased to 44.8MB. No matter how many times I run it, it never deletes the cache and the cache size fluctuates each time.

I’ve looked online and the Bleachbit forum to try to find an answer, but have yet to find one. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? It’s one thing for Bleachbit not to delete the cache, but really strange that the cache size changes considering I never use IE or Edge.

Any enlightenment or advice is greatly appreciated!

IE is used by Windows for various things, like viewing mail in Outlook. You can’t do anything about it apart from patch and clean.

Windows, in spite of greatly improved security, is getting a bit rickity, thanks to Bill Gates tying IE to Windows to win a case 20 years ago that was initiated by the US government’s red tape people, simply to crush Netscape. Gates outsmarted them at their own game.

Original poster here. But I don’t use Outlook either. So why the persistent and changing cache? I know I can’t do anything about it (i.e. remove it), but wondered why the cache never gets cleaned. Don’t know if it’s something within IE and MS or an issue with Bleachbit.

So why the persistent and changing cache?

BleachBit probably is not able to as the files in the cache are open for use, or protected because of one or more programs. (Microsoft’s own cleaning program (cleanmgr) removes quite a lot of cruft but there are still files left after it has done the tasks.)

If you want to to have firm data the Handle or Process Explorer utilities can provide voluminous information, from experience please heed the warnings in the documentation.

Windows uses IE for things other that Outlook.
Try firing the machine up for 30 mins without doing anything and check the cache, then do some things and check the cache again.

ccPortable will delete IE temp files (= IE cache at C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.)
You can disable IE but you may encounter some problems.
