When booting up my computer there is a popup on the taskbar that says Windows has blocked some startup programs and I clicked on the icon. It blocked Hewlett Packard “HP connections”, Publisher not available “KbdStub.EXE” , Hewlett Packard Company ” hpsysdrv” , OsdMaestro ” OsdMaestro”, Intel Corporation ” Raid Event Monitor” , and Kaspersky Lab ” Kaspersky Anti- Virus. All these says Not Yet Classified.
The rest have been Permitted. I do not know why I have this popup, but everything seems to be working all right.

AskWoody LoungerMay 23, 2007 at 2:49 am #1065825I believe what you are seeing is Windows Defender blocking those items. For sure, allow (stop blocking) Kaspersky. As for HP stuff…. I can’t advise you although I despise HP printers, etc., just because of the incredible amount of services, processes, etc., they require to run. Someone with a HP printer or scanner will be able to advise you in regard to each of the items you listed. But the “fix” is the same… either allow Defender to continue blocking these items or to allow them (stop blocking).

AskWoody LoungerMay 23, 2007 at 3:55 am #1065829Printer is working just fine. Not sure if HP connections ( publisher) should be blocked or unblocked, but how do I unblock it? I clicked the icon and it has show or remove blocked start programs, the other link is blocked program which is Abdobe Update manager, should Abdobe Update Manager be unblocked or blocked?
On the Kaspersky issue, is it possible that Defender is blocking Kaspersky from the start up programs, since they may not be compatible to run together but seperately?

AskWoody LoungerMay 23, 2007 at 9:41 am #1065843Click on the WDefender icon in the systray, open, it will show various sections for WDefender. Go to Software Explorer. A dropdown box with ‘startup programs’ will be 1 of the selections. It will list all of the programs allowed to run at startup. There is a Help on how the user can determine which ones you want to allow/disallow, etc.(Using Software Explorer). Just read that and it will explain how to fix whatever you need to do.
Hope this is what you need. -

Windows Defender and Kaspersky AV or KIS are fully compatible. When KAV/KIS is first installed, Defender often blocks the Updater which needs to have free access to the Internet. You only need to “Unblock” this item when prompted. No element of Kaspersky should be blocked for any reason….. allow everything and anything it wants.Re: Adobe Update Manager. That’s your choice. This is Adobe’s auto update check which runs I think on a monthly basis. If you don’t care/need Acrobat Reader to check for new updates on a scheduled basis, keep it blocked.

AskWoody LoungerMay 24, 2007 at 1:46 pm #1065996HP peripherals’ drivers and software are being updated all the time. Go to HP, navigate to Download Drivers, and you may discover that they already have or ‘are working on’ (as with my Photosmart 7150), software that is compatible with Vista or for which they have a temporary workaround.
If you check their drivers and software you will find that you can usually install the driver without the software, although it’s hard to figure out what the software includes. After a hundred or so image editors you may realize that you only need one, and a freebie may be your best choice. I think in some cases that the bundled software justifies the purchase of new hardware, or at least eases the pain, and I wish there were more reviews and comparisons of it.
