    Hi,

I had to change the hard drive on a Toughbook recently, but the laptop has no CD, so I copied the setup files for WinXP onto the hard drive by sticking it in a desktop.

I need now to boot from a floppy, to dos, with the ability to execute the setup.exe file on the hard drive – but it is formatted with NTFS, not FAT.

Anyone know a nice easy way of doing this without me having to take out hard drive again, ?

You need an NTFS driver that will allow reads and writes. See Free NTFS Bootdisk, NTFS4DOS, NTFS Boot CD and if that does not work see other links at dos ntfs driver – Google Search.

Thanks for that – I have tried NTFS4DOS, which gives me read write access to the Hard drive after booting from the floppy, but I cant run WINNT.exe from the command line

I get a message that setup cannot continue due to Smartdrive not being installed.

Going to try a network boot now after finally getting into the BIOS (it was passworded) and enabling LAN boot.

Just got to set me up a RIS Server first!

        Cheers

And just in case anybody is looking for the latest NTFS4DOS, http://www.free-av.com/down/windows/ntfs_h.exe%5B/url%5D is a valid link at the time of writing. I went round in circles trying to find a download from the Avira site.
