This is different one to my last post, i am upgrading the motherboard on a friends computer. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8CX i have attached the following components to it AGP Graphics card seated correctly, Pentium II Processor 400mhz and fan. And 128mb Rimm memory. Yet when i boot it up it doesn’t boot into a screen the monitor is not activated. Also another thing when i power it up it powers up ok fans go round. But it will not pwer off, i have to unplug the power switch. and next time i plug power back in the computer boots up without pressing the power switch.

This is really beginning to do my head in

Are you able to get into power-on setup?

the machine powers on and runs the fans on board the processor but will not bring anything up on the screen. I am running Rimm memory that is compatible with the board.

….try re-setting the BIOS by moving the appropriate jumpers (consult your manual)

Here’s my :

The problem about “the power not turning off” is because of the ATX power supply. Press and hold the button in for a few seconds and it will power down. If you could get into the BIOS power management settings, you would see there is an area to control this function.

I’m sure most of us have been caught out by this function at some time over the past few years, so don’t feel to bad about it.

Since you put in a new MB, be sure that nothing is shorting the MB; reseat it if necessary. I spent 6 weeks on weird failure to boot problem, only to discover a lost screw between MB and case. Yep, I did it to myself.

have you taken out and reseated the AGP card? Are there any beeps? Try different RAM too. The pressing the power button and waiting 5-10 seconds is now a normal thing but a pain too. Did the processor come already installed on the MBoard? Your might want to reseat it too.
