    hi,

Bought HP Laptop Win11 Home Edition. While going thru Welcome/ Setup screen, I don’t know how to skip creating an account. I did a quick search for answer here and in google and my Setup Screen doesn’t have same options like “I don’t have internet” so that I can set up with limited setup mode or in Sign in Options I don’t have “Domain name”.

Creating a Bootable USB Drive isn’t an option.

I have went thru setup screens and messed up then did forced shutdown 3 times when I mes up.

    Help?

Easiest way is go ahead and connect to internet. When it gets to entering your address for your ms account type in no@thankyou.com. Use anything for a password. It will fail and give you option to create local account.

This doesn’t work anymore.. I type wrong email id but it still ask for sign ID by stating something went wrong.. how to create a local drive..

You have to be connected to the Internet.
When it asks you to enter a Microsoft ID, put in no@thankyou.com and any password.
It will do a “Oops!” and ask you again for an ID. Use the real ID and password you want and it will create a LOCAL account. WRITE DOWN that ID and password.
If it asks you to look for updates – say “LATER.”
When the install finishes, disconnect from the Internet, go through the Control Panel and Settings App and set your settings and privacy where you want it.
Then connect to the Internet and do the updates.
Later, if it asks for a PIN, you can create one if you want to, BUT you still need to have a record of the PASSWORD (it didn’t go away, you may need it down the road).

It seems it’s a laptop with S Mode edition/version. Is there any way to avoid creating Microsoft Account in order to Install/Get “Switch out S mode” app and be able to download browsers and etc softwares ??

        • #2583694

          FOLLOW the instructions above.
The way to avoid an MS ID is given to you twice.
Use no@thankyou.com as the ID when first asked.

          • #2583696

I didn’t use that as email address…long story. All updates installed..not just HP Drivers since I’m in S Mode. Does this mean it’s too late now to use nothankyou email address in order to be able to click the blue button “Get” for Switch S Mode Off in its Store ?

            • #2583701

If you have already created an MS ID, yes it’s too late to have the LOCAL ID only.
Even if you create a LOCal ID now, the computer will still be registered to the MS account.

You can proceed with the the MS ID to get out of S Mode, but the MS ID will be your account.

I didn’t create a MS account..only attempted to create a dumby email and password and would get message saying like it can’t find account. Sooo is it too late?

Reboot.  Start the “out of box” set up again.

Really!?…But I didn’t create MS Account since I Clicked “Sign In” then entered a dumby email and log in in order to bypass making a MS Account. Is it really too late to use the nothankyou email ??  Also, curious what do you mean by reboot?…do you mean Click on “Reset this PC” ?

Also, are saying that I can avoid needing to create MS Account in order to get out of S Mode by using the nothankyou email and fake password ?

            • #2583712

In order to get out of S mode you must enter a MS account. This is the price of buying a computer with S mode.  You can then log back into a local account and blow off the MS account once you’ve gotten yourself out of S mode.

Can I still use the nothankyou email ? I just tried installing Skype a few hours later and it let me even though it took me to MS Store and it worked without installing “Switching Out of S Mode” App (which the PC didn’t let me download ealier). Does that mean when entered a dumby login after clicking “Sign In” blue button is registered/linked to the PC ?

Even if a blow off the MS Account, I was told that the PC will be still registered as a MS Account User. How do I permanently delete MS Account ?.. since I don’t know if with a creation of a dumby login will have my IP Address or any real personal PC Info in it’s Meta Data.

Or this for no internet: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/all/set-up-windows-11-without-internet-oobebypassnro/4fc44554-b416-4ecb-8961-6f79fd55ae0f

Open cmd with Shift + F10 and type OOBE\BYPASSNRO.  Your computer will restart and now you will have the “I don’t have Internet” option.

      Switch out S mode

Disable S mode without a Microsoft account.

“There is no way to disable S Mode without a Microsoft Account, because that can only be done by accessing the Microsoft Store.

To get around that, you can create one Microsoft Account to use on those PC’s, then log into the store to switch out of S Mode.

Then in the Settings App, go to Accounts – Your Info, there will be one of two options available, ‘Sign in With a Local Account’ or ‘Stop using this account to automatically log into Apps’

Choosing either of those options would remove your Microsoft Account form the PC and it would switch back to the original local account.”

And then there is this from Disable S mode without a Microsoft account, page 2:

“There IS a procedure to remove SMode without using the windows store however it involves several advanced techniques Recovery Mode, Admin Command Prompt, and Regedit. Only attempt this if you have backed up your data and are familiar with these tools. I can kinda understand why David would not mention this either because he did not know or was not comfortable explaining how to modify an offline registry hive in a preboot environment.”

        1. Boot into recovery mode Settings > Recovery > Advanced Startup > Reboot now
        2. Click advanced troubleshooting open an admin command prompt in recovery mode and run regedit
        3. Click on HKEY Local Machine and than select Load Hive from the file menu.
        4. Go to C:\windows\system32\config and select the file named SYSTEM
        5. Name the loaded hive offline System it will now show up under HKEY Local Machine.
        6. Navigate to offlineSystem\ControlSet001\Control\CI\Policy
        7. Change SkuPolicyRequired from 1 to 0 unload the hive and reboot the computer.

“There is a good tutorial demonstrating the process here glad to know there are still some people in the IT world that actually take the time to do this kind of research for the rest of us”

See this youtube video How To Turn Off Windows S Mode Without Microsoft Account

Note: It is really a hoot to watch! BTW, you can also turn SMode back on if you want to…
