From time to time I receive emails from customers with a from line like (details slightly changed for privacy):
outlook_8AXXXAD33XE4FC05@outlook.com
Replying to these is pointless as the emails bounce with an error message of
BN7NAM10FT040.mail.protection.outlook.com rejected your message to the following email addresses:
outlook_8AXXXAD33XE4FC05@outlook.com
A communication failure occurred during the delivery of this message. Please try to resend the message later. If the problem continues, contact your email admin.
BN7NAM10FT040.mail.protection.outlook.com gave this error:
Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable.
I am just wondering what is the cause of the email address in the customer’s email to be shown like this? I am fairly sure that the customer never entered this, so suspect it may have been “auto-added” by outlook perhaps due to some incorrect email setup ?
