Any suggestions for the reason for sheet tabs and scrollbars suddenly disappearing from a workbook?
Things I checked: There is no code in the workbook to control sheet tabs and scrollbars. Nor in the Excel options were the sheet tabs and scrollbars turned off.

A stop/start of excel and reopened it solved the problem – but I’m wondering why.

Does installing SP2 solve this problem too? (Cf. [post=”783840″]Post 783840[/post])

      Go to your Windows Logo
      Open Excel Options
Choose the Advanced Option on the left
Go to your Display settings as shown in the graphic

I did however load SP2 today. Maybe it’s a bug that SP2 corrects. If you have checked the Options then I am baffled.

      Maybe:

      1. This problem sometimes happens after you unhook the workbook window from the Excel window (by using the Restore Window button in the trio of buttons on the title bar), and then inadvertently move the window beneath the status bar. This may also occur if your computer’s screen resolution is higher than that of the person who last saved the workbook.

      2. If you widen the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of a worksheet, you may unintentionally hide some or all of the sheet tabs.

      3. Was this a workbook in Excel 2003 where all the sheet tabs were purposelyhidden.

We had very similar experience where tabs appeared to be missing (mysteriously ‘stolen’ by the workstation bug).
For some reason the worksheet window had been ‘restored’, moved down the application window, and then ‘stretched’ back to fill the application window. So it looked quite normal apart from the tabs and scroll bars missing. The bit that gave it away was the close worksheet X being off screen to the right.
        Very crafty and mysterious.
