I notice that when exiting a bullet list by pressing Enter without any other text, the next line maintains the bullet list indents. In fact it still maintains the Bullet Style even though it no longer insert the bullets. What am I missing here?

You’re missing the fact that the new paragraph still has the style of the bullet paragraph. If you want the paragraph formatted as Normal then you need to select Normal from the styles dropdown (or type Control-Shift-N)

This behavior is unfortunate but intentional. Microsoft wants to make using bullets and numbering easy for sloppy users, so it lets you finish a bulleted or numbered list by pressing Enter twice, even if you’re using a bulleted or numbered style where that should not happen.

You can restore the bullets or numbering by selecting the paragraphs and pressing Ctrl+Q (reset paragraph formatting).

Another way to turn off the bulleted list is simply to click the Bullets button when you’re finished. In other words, press Enter to move the cursor to the next line, then click the Bullets button to stop using bullets. The button serves as a toggle (one click to turn it on, another click to turn it off).

      Does that work?
