Maybe they can “scare” it with an antitrust lawsuit, thats about it.

Probably worth mentioning that in May, DuckDuckGo was found to be allowing trackers from Microsoft. After this was discovered and publicised they said they would stop it.

I’m confused.  I went to duckduckgo.com and the first think I see is a window to add this as a extension to chrome.  Is this a stand alone or an extension?  Why would I add an extension to Google Chrome?  I must be missing something.

Did you not see the textbox for entering your search query?

I’ve been using DDG as my only search engine for a few years, now, and I also have their search engine set as the homepage for FIrefox.  I want absolutely nothing to do with anything Google, and I have been well pleased with DDG’s results (no filter bubble, etc.)

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.

We were all once "Average Users".

When the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser got caught last May in a sweetheart deal with Microsoft, the company lost all credibility with me. Just another creepy company that cannot be trusted, regardless of what their advertising says. I seem to get better search results with “Presearch” but have no idea how that company functions or its privacy protections, if any.

Speaking of privacy, how come “Ask Woody” won’t allow me to login while using a VPN?

Your VPN may be using an IP address that is a known bad actor.  Have you tried it with a different IP/region?

Your VPN provider is likely supplying you with a ‘dirty IP’ that the askwoody firewall has rejected keeping the site safe from harm 🙂

I thought that Duckduckgo’s search engine WAS Google’s search engine through an anonimizer.  Did DDG build its own search engine, or did Brian inadvertently leave this fact out?

Not sure about DDG,but another search engine named Startpage does use Goggle as their main source.Apparently they pay Google directly for results.

This is not right! And just rubbish, the socalled firewall wordfence-free from wordpress used by this site is just so very bad. Never ever have I been blocked because of using a renommated vpn, only here. Perhaps askwoody seems to be eager to track down individuals by ip and connection-metadata.

There are a number of dedicated web sites that track spam/scam by IP, and post/update those results regularly.  Any IP address that is a known spammer/scammer appears on such website lists.

Spammers/scammers also use VPN’s.  A VPN doesn’t permanently assign an IP address to you.  When you close your browser and VPN, that IP address you’ve been using is released back into the pool.  So if your VPN gives you temporary use of an IP address that has also been a known source of spam/scam posts, it’s a “dirty” IP address.

Try logging in here without using your VPN.

search.brave.com is trying to do it with its own crawlers i think.

I tried using DDG for a while some months back.  Their results weren’t very good.

I also miss the “People also ask” section Google search results because often it provides excellent info and I don’t have to go to the website to read this info.
