I have a Windows XP install disk with SP2. Can I create a new install disk with SP3 and all the updates that I have installed on my PC? I’m sick of doing a reinstall, then adding SP3 and then downloading all the updates again.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

Take a look at Slipstream Service Pack 3 into Your Windows XP Installation CD. I’ve found this relatively easy to do. Despite the title, it also covers including updates.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 17, 2012 at 4:24 am #1349231Yes you can. We call them Images. Use a good 3rd party Imaging tool and create an Image. This will create a compressed file with EVERYTHING in the HD for restoration if something goes wrong. There are many discussions in the Maintenance forum on Imaging.
Images bring the OS back to it’s exact state when the Image is created, including all apps, customizations, everything. It is however easier to store an Image on an Ext. HD rather than a disk since the Image size, although compressed, will span several disks.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 20, 2012 at 4:52 pm #1352537Believe this old tech, when I tell you that “Medico” is 150% correct!!!
When you’ve blown out windows or trashed your hard drive, there is nothing that can or will replace a recent Backup Image File stored in a safe place, like on a second hard drive (either internal or External….Internal is much faster and will encourage you to make your backups more often…..like weekly (not Weakly))
Using Ghost 11.5, it takes me less than 15 minutes to do my weekly backup to a second internal hard drive.I’ve been setting up backup schemes for PC’s, Banks and Corp’s for about 30 years.
Only a total backup will save the day, when your main Hard Drive, howls and smokes.Having just an OS disk, still leaves you hours and hours of disk rebuilding, to even get close to where you were before your hard drive crashed. And of course your data files are GONE!
It’s a good idea to back up your data DAILY, to a second drive or Flash Drive.
I have a 32 gig Flash Drive plugged in permanently, to get my daily data file backups, via a batch file that I run from a desktop shortcut. That takes just a few seconds, since it copies only files that have been changed or just created.Just an ounce of prevention ……………. (you know the rest)
Cheers Mates!
