I created a form in Front Page that, when you click Submit, dumps the results into a DB within the site. The site is published to a hosted web server that is offsite, but that I have the admin credentials for. I’m a little green when it comes to this, so someone let me know if I’m trying the impossible.
I’d like to be able to view the Results table, but am unable to. I go to File | Open in Access on my machine, then type the URL (path) of the remote database in the file name field and when I click Open it tells me that Access is unable to open the data access page. It then goes on to tell me I’m trying to open a database off of a web server. Duh. So….is it not possible to do so? How else am I supposed to view the results in the database short of FTPing to my desktop, which seems like a pain.
Ultimately I’d like to be able to link a local front end on my computer to the results table “back end” on the web server. I have tried this already, by opening a blank database, then going to File | Get External Data | Link Tables, typing in the URL, but when I click okay I get an error “Not a valid file name.” I realize that I don’t know enough about this, and am probably missing a key step. Can anyone shed any light for me.
Thanks – Sat.
