For several months, I’ve been witnessing a strange problem at a particular web site.

There is some file size past which I have not been able to down load a file, either as a PDF or as a ZIP file.
I can download much larger files from other web sites.

Same problem with IE 6 and Firefox 1.0.3, however, firefox just hangs, then times out without any message, IE gives a message stating that the connection to the server was lost.reset(I forget which).

Tonight, not knowing when to quit, instead of downloading, I told Firfox to open th PDF file. Voila, the fil was opened and I was then able to save on myb system.

    Any ideas what causes this?

P.S. It’s a private web site, requiring a password, so I cannot point you to the site.

      Howard,
Can’t help you with the why or wherefore of the time-out, but I just open most PDF’s in a new tab, “Save a Copy”, and move on. I use Firefox 1.0.3.

(In other words, your experience is not unique.)

Opening the PDF is not a satisfactory solution.

It takes about the same amount of download time to open as it does to DL and save.
Explain way OPEN is not a OPTION?

download does not interfere with other things and does not cause screen resources to be used,
