Can Windows Live Mail display the total number of messages being downloaded

Hello. I have a curve ball for you all. I want to be able, onle I click “send and receive” in WLM to have a window pop up like in OE6 that show how many messages I had and the status of them being downloaded. Now, as soon as I download the messages into WLM I rush down to the status bar and click it and it does show me the information I want, but I thought there may be a better way of doing it such as what I mentioned.

If you close WLM after clicking S/R button you will see message of whats occurring.

Thanks, but I’m not sure if you remember how OE had the dialog box pop up show how many messages were being download and the progress of the download. If you go to the 4:20 mark of this clip you’ll see exactly the window I’m talking about.

Thanks for the reply. Very typical of most upgrades by most company’s, remove the most useful efficient features of a program and release it as a new and improved product!

That is one of the little things that OE6 does, to make it just a little more friendly.
After using that program for years, it’s just one of those things that I wish was NOT
OEM so maybe I could just pick it up and move it over to Win-7.
But alas, I’ve not figured out any way to do that.

The next best thing for me was/is to activate the Windows Mail program that was
included with every issue of Windows 7, but left UN-activated. It’s the closest
thing to O.E.6 of any program I’ve seen so far.

I put everything I need, to activate Windows Mail, in one folder and carry it with me
on my Utilities DVD, on every service call.
Windows Mail, I call O.E.6 on steroids. It’s just as easy to set up and work with and
gives a lot of the old familiar screens as O.E.6.

Many of us have used Windows XP in one form or another, for over ten years now, and
we just don’t want to CHANGE. I’m sure some programmer at MS realized this when they
put Windows Mail in Win-7, although some imperial pressure made them disable it.
That was probably a last-ditch effort to force people to use Windows Live Mail as well as
many of the other Windows Live apps.

MS also changed the old familiar Solitaire game to something from Star Wars. It’s hardly
recognizable as the old Sol game that many of us have played and loved for MANY years.
I found that if someone grabs the two files Sol.exe and Cards.dll from any XP install and
carries them over to Win-7, the Sol game will work just fine.
Just put the two files in the root directory and make a shortcut to Sol.exe and put that
on the desktop.

So true! WLM is all right, there’s a few things missing from it that I miss from OE6 but it isn’t a total downgrade, a little unstable as well. Thanks to all who took the time to help!

OTOH, many of these “features” were developed when many of us had much slower and more unreliable internet connections. It was important to let the user know that work was actually progressing. You could then guess as how long a specific task might take. These days with faster, more reliable connections that sort of notification is less important. Most of the time the download is finished very quickly. There is also the design tendencies to have fewer popups. It is always a difficult decision between too many and just enough notifications.
