I want to delete an empty file folder in My Documents, but Windows won’t let me do it. I get the error message “Access denied–make sure the folder is not write-protected….” I’ve checked the folder’s properties, and I see nothing to explain this behavior. Suggestions?

Does the problem persist if you restart your PC?

      Lucas,
Check out the freeware utility that will unlock those files and folders.

It’s called of all things, Unlocker. I’ve used it many times and it works great,

      Go to :UNLOCKER free

I downloaded Unlocker and tried it. Got error message: “Folder could not be deleted.” This after it reported “no locking handle found.”

        Hm-m-m….

Is this folder one that was made by “The system” or one that YOU made?

If system made, then you may NOT be able to ever delete it.

If your machine is multi-user, it could be a security setting. Try taking ownership of the folder and see if you are allowed to delete it. I presume you have administrative rights to the folder in question…?

Try running a full ChkDsk on the drive in question – it sounds like there may be a bit of corruption.

Another alternative is the free utility Dr. Delete.
