I an trying to delete a file BCG8.tmp from my temp directory. I get the message “file in in use with another process”, even when nothing else is running. 🙁
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try this in Safe Mode?

See Movefiles from Windows Sysinternals. There is an examples on the page of deleting a file at the next boot (which is what you have to do).

Not necessarily so, Joe. 😉 Take a look at the little, free utility Unlocker. It should do the deed for you. Possibly without a reboot.

Get the FREE program Unlocker and it will get rid of anything you want!

What is the create date on the file? If it’s today it’s likely in use by some obscure program like your AV.
There are often a few files in the temp directory that can’t be deleted because they are in use and protected.
Some programs create new tmp files daily and don’t remove the old ones – these can easily be deleted, except the newest one.
I just use ccleaner once in a while to clean out the temp directories.

Thanks to all replies – Unlocker did the trick.

So I suggest the program and provide a link to download it, regerick posts a confirmation of my suggestion in the next post, with no link, and he gets the thank you ?????

Seriously, the only important thing is that you got it sorted out. Thanks for posting back with your results.:)
