Using Mozilla or Google Chrome on my laptop I cannot open http://www.microsoft.com or use online help within my Office applications. Google Chrome just says ‘This link appears broken’.
Has this happened to anybody else? Is it a known virus? My PC Tools virus software cannot find anything wrong.
Thanks, Andy.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 21, 2009 at 1:05 pm #1143126Using Firefox 3.0.5, I’m able to browse the http://www.microsoft.com[/url%5D link. So it would appear that’s not the issue.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 21, 2009 at 2:01 pm #1143140Google Chrome doesn’t have a problem with http://www.microsoft.com either – see screenshot.
I haven’t heard of a virus that blocks http://www.microsoft.com, but you might check whether http://www.microsoft.com or microsoft.com has been added to your Hosts file (a plain text file in C:WindowsSystem32DriversEtc)

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 23, 2009 at 11:58 am #1143589Hi. I haven’t changed my default browser, but I have Recovered my laptop. I still can’t access any microsoft sites. (I thought recovering a laptop would solve most problems?).
Anyway, I think I’ll now consider it a minor issue – although if it still doesn’t enable me to update my anti-virus software then this will become a more significant issue..
Thanks, Andy.
