I have an endnote at the end of a document which adds an extra blank page to the document. When I try to delete this endnote, I get the error message ‘This is not a valid action for endnotes’.

Is there any way to remove this endnote?

If you delete the reference (in the body of the document) then it should delete the endnote.

Could you please tell me how to find the reference. The document is 23 pages and the endnote is blank.

I think Karen means the corresponding endnote number that appears in the text.

If your problem is an extra paragraph mark in the endnote pane after the last endnote, try deleting the second-to-last one. If necessary, type characters before and after it to see if that helps you select it.

You could also use Find/Replace to delete the endnote.
          1. Press Ctrl+End to place the cursor at the end of the document.
          2. Press Ctrl+H to bring up the Replace box & click “More”.
          3. Using wildcards:
          Find: *
Under Format (in the dialog box), choose Style & scroll to Endnote reference.
          Replace: (leave this blank)
          4. In the Search box, choose “Up” & Click “replace” (not replace all).

This should find & delete the last endnote in the document.

Thank you all for your help. I did discover the cause of this problem. I selected tools > track changes > highlight changes and highlight changes on screen was turned off. When I turned this back on, the endnotes, plus other changes were displayed. I had to accept all changes to fix the problem.
