There’s a horizontal black border line above a footnote, but there are two paragraph returns separating the bar from the footnote, which is a) wasted space and odd looking b/c the borderline is too far above the footnote

Within References>Footnotes, I see no options for addressing this, and I get no cursor response when I click on the border line or the two returns. I can edit the footnote sentence though.

    Anyone?

Activate the View tab of the Ribbon.
Click Draft in the Document Views section.
Activate the References tab of the Ribbon.
Click View Notes in the Footnotes section.
This will open the Footnotes pane.
Click the dropdown arrow in the Footnotes box at the top of this pane.
Select Footnote Separator from the dropdown list.
You’ll see a line. Are there blank lines below it? If so, delete them.

        Thanks! How incredibly non-intuitive.

This feature has always been hidden very efficiently…

There is a “View Footnote Separator” command, but it doesn’t appear anywhere on the ribbon.

There may be an easier way to do this, but you can get to it by:

[*]Click the down-arrow at the right of the Quick Access Toolbar
        [*]click “More Commands…”
[*]In the “Choose commands from” dropdown, select “Commands Not in the Ribbon”
        [*]Select “View Footnote Separator”
        [*]click “Add” then “OK”

This will add a yellow circle to the Quick Access Toolbar which will take you to a pane where you can edit the footnote separator.

        Great tip. Thanks.
