Cannot successfully install 1809 upgrade

I have an ACER Predator G3620 which most recent BIOS (August 2012). running Windows 10 Pro. I keep getting failures when trying to upgrade to 1809. After many failures [including using ISO file] I called MS support to get some help. Agent fiddled with my machine for a while and said that my BIOS is too old and that I needed to get a more current version. Well, there is no more current version. Anyone else run into the problem like this? BTW the error that finally came up after 81% completion was: “The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation.”
Any ideas for things to try?
