• Cannot use modem in network

    Present set-up is as follows:
W2k prof. on the desktop, connected via a cable modem to the Internet.
Win98-2 on second computer connected by means of a network card 10/100Mb with desktop.
I made a simple peer to peer network mainly intended to share the Internet connection on the desktop from 2nd computer. This finally worked after adjusting ZoneAlarm, but I could not ‘see’ the other computer (both ways).
After reading Post: 111493 re: 107209 from bmwtinut I installed netbeui on both computers and now I can exchange files and the computers do see each other. However there is no possibility anymore to share the Internet connection from computer #2 via computer #1.
Is the Internet connection always shared by using the TCP/IP. Or do I have to activate the Netbeui protocol also on the LAN connection of computer #1 with the Internet.
What could I do or try to do in order to fix this problem?
    Thanks for any help

      ICS requires TCP/IP

        Ian,
On the desktop I have a LAN1 connection and a LAN2; LAN1 is vis TCP/IP connected to the cable network; LAN2 is the connection to the 2nd home computer. LAN2 was configured to use TCP/IP and later NetBeui was added. Now it seems that NetBeui has taken priority in the local network over TCP/IP in other words: the two local area network computers communicating via LAN2 can see eachother and exchange files, but the use of LAN1 via LAN2 for plain Internet is not working anymore.
That is the problem in short.

Make sure that the internet connection is checked on your LAN1 connection. This only needs to be checked for the machine that is actually hooked to the internet. If I understand your probelm correct that should solve it. That check is in properties of the LAN1 connection.

The internet connection on LAN1 is checked and working properly already.
For LAN2 connecting to the other computer addresses are on automatic.
