hi — I can’t access the shared folders from within programs such as Excel, Word, PhotoShop. I log-in to the server, open these programs, but the shared drives don’t show up when select “file” then “open”. I only see the local drives and under “network” it will show me the other computers on the network but not the Server or the shared folders on the server. Any ideas? Thanks.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMarch 28, 2009 at 11:57 am #1153959On the client PC if the shared folders do NOT show up using Windows Explorer you’ve got an authentication problem. Make sure that your userid is allowed to access the folder shares.
Joe
I have 3 computers on the network tied to the HP MediaSmart Server — its identified on the network as HPServer. On two of the clients I have no problems, can access all Shared Folders, as well as the other client computers from each of these machines.
However, the third machine has problems. Using Windows Explorer as you suggested above, clicking on Network, only displays the name for that machine, and its Public folder and Printer folder — none of the other Clients or the HPServer are displayed or accessible through Windows Explorer.
If I click on “shared folders”, then “users” I can open Excel and Word files for Users on the HPServer. But if I open Excel or Word, click on Open, then Network, it will not show the HPServer — but it will show the name of the machine itself and one of the other client machines that are on the network — interestingly, one of the othr clients does not show up.
The User name that I log-in with has full access to all of the shares. The machine that is giving me problems is a laptop that is setup to work under Microsoft’s domain — so that it can tie into Microsoft’s network. [/quote]

When you say “I log-in to the server” what do you actually do?
If you want the shared folders to be visible then you need to connect a network drive to them
