    Crew,

I have a 4 page brochure I created in 1999 when I first came on with my present company, that turned out to be useful when updated to cover a current issue in our town…to now be mailed out to the entire community (10,000 residents.)

The commercial printer of course wants an EPS file.

I attempted the first stage of this EPS saving process, which is to install a PostScript driver, but then only got as far as Print Setup Properties in the second phase.

Since we don’t have any such type printers at my company, I had followed the directions for installing a generic EPS version (Apple.) That went fine…but when I then go to select the EPS Printer in the beginning of the save as EPS process, the directions tell me to select the Post Script Tab in the Print Setup Properties dialog.

I don’t have a PostScript Tab in my Print Setup Properties dialog.

    What went wrong?

    Thanks,

In the Print Setup Properties dialog, do you have a button labelled “Advanced”? On my postscript printer driver (HP) there are two tabs – “Layout” and “Quality” and both have an “Advanced” button that lets me fiddle with the Postscript settings. The attached screenshot shows what displays and the Output Option drop-down box allows the choice of EPS.

Curiously enough, I’m running Publisher 2002/XP and the help file refers to the “Print Setup” menu but there is no such menu item – that presumably means the help was not updated and I’m seeing the help entry for the 2000 version!!

        Ian,

        Unbelievable !!!

What a night. The Pub help files told me I would have a Tab…so I never looked any further (having no Tab.) Thanks very much.

Anyway…I had originally wanted to save the file as a *.ps to import into Illustrator to create an *eps. I went ahead & printed to file (not knowing of course that your EPS option was there) by naming the file: *.ps, right? I opened the *.ps in Illustrator; & it wouldn’t recognize several font types…replacing them with a jumbled mess. I go back into Pub to Commercial Printing Tools; & try both embed & do not embed for those fonts, but still no go.

Then, someone at another board suggested I copy & paste directly (Pub to AI.) It worked !!!!!!! Unbelievable !!! I never would have thought (since it was so easy.) The only attribute that didn’t make the transition was a table…everything else was just fine.

Problem solved; & thanks for your input (I’ll stow that away fer a rainy day, mate.)
