    Hi All,

Saw the article in Windows Secrets on how to create a Recovery Drive, went out and bought an 8GB USB flash drive, followed the instructions in the article and I get this http://screencast.com/t/lantbgIjsb0 Did I do something wrong? Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone can give,

    Steve

Try disabling your A/V and create the drive again.

        Hi Joe,

I disabled my A/V program and get the same error!

If you have a drive bigger than 8GB you may want to try that.

            Joe,

Only user on system, full Administrator(no user accounts) and I bought an 8GB USB flash drive based on the Windows Secrets email to say 512MB or 8GB for a full recovery drive.

So I guess there is no hope of creating a recovery drive?

Not necessarily, but there’s really nothing to go on here as to why this is happening.

Have you checked the USB stick to make sure it’s good? Can you format it as FAT32 and write files to it?

            • #1529521

Yes, formatted Fat32 & copied a file to it

            • #1529522

Ran DISM it failed with error: 0x800f081f
The source files could not be found

Are you signed in as a member of the administrator group?

Have you run SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt?

      Or Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth or Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth & Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I don’t know enough about how a recovery drive is created, but does there have to already be a recovery partition on your existing drive for it to copy? Is there one on your HDD?

      • #1529656

        Graham,

I don’t either know about a recovery partition on my Hard drive, I think that would be a different recovery (not sure), I just want to be able to have a full backup of my C drive but everything on my system seems to be stopping that for some reason…

I am having the same problem as Steve, in that I am unable to create a Recovery Drive regardless of whether or not I include the system files. I receive the following non-specific error message:

        42146-Screen-Shot-09-24-15-at-01.33-PM

I have disabled Windows Defender, and followed Joe’s advice to use the SCANNOW and DISM programs, all without finding any problems. See the following:

        42147-Screen-Shot-09-24-15-at-02.39-PM

        42148-Screen-Shot-09-24-15-at-03.31-PM

The computer with the problem is a 64bit Lenovo Desktop with 4GB RAM, and a 1T hard drive that was updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I should note that I successfully created a recovery drive for my wife’s new HP laptop with no problems whatsoever. I would really like to have the security of a recovery drive for my desktop. Any suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

        Dave
