• Can’t cursor up in Table (Word 2000)

I’ve asked about this problem here before, but it still baffles me, so I’m posting another document to see what you think.

When I try to cursor up in the attached table (i.e., either by holding down the UpArrow or hitting the UpArrow as single keystrokes), I cannot go beyond the row at the top of the screen. The cursor simply comes to a stop, as if that’s the very top of the document. To go higher, I must use the PgUp key or the mouse (with either the wheel or scroll bar).

I’m a “keyboard” person, so having to use the mouse slows me down. And PgUp of course isn’t as precise as the single UpArrow movements.

Just now as a comparison experiment, I created a new Table several pages long, and was able to cursor up with no problem from the very end to the very beginning. The document I’ve attached is one I created about a week ago, so it hasn’t been corrupted or anything, and yet I can’t cursor-up in it. This has happened to me many times before, and I’m really puzzled.

As I recall, the people who replied to my previous post about this had no problem cursoring up in the document I attached back then.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I can’t explain it, but it seems to have to do with the top and bottom cell margins. In the table in your document both are set to 0.25 cm (0.1″). If I set both of them to 0.2 cm (0.08″) or less, the up arrow works as intended; if at least one of them is over 0.225 cm (0.09″), the up arrow refuses to scroll the window when the insertion point reaches the toip of the document window.

All this is in Normal view. In Page Layout / Print Layout view, I can scroll using the arrow keys without problems, whatever the top and bottom cell margins.

Wow, Hans, you are so right!!

Everything you said works. Print Layout has no problem with the cursoring up. I don’t know why I didn’t think of trying that.

And when I reduced the top and bottom cell margins to the value you mentioned, the problem disappeared in Normal view.

Thank you so much for solving a problem I’ve struggled with for a long time. (It makes the overtime I had to work tonight a little easier to take.)
